Prof. Dr. Andreas Leithner (born 1974) is head of the Department of Orthopaedics and Trauma (since 2017) and full professor for orthopaedic surgery (since 2012) at the Medical University of Graz, Austria. He served as Secretary of the European Muskuloskeletal Oncology Society (EMSOS) from 2012 to 2023, is the former President of the Austrian Muskuloskeletal Oncology Society (AMSOS), the former President of the Austrian Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons (ÖGO) and the incoming president of the International Society of Limb Salvage (ISOLS).

Born in Vienna, he studied medicine there and went to Graz in 2000, soon specializing in the field of orthopaedic oncology. He became “Dozent” in 2005 and interim head of the Orthopaedic Department from 2010 to 2012, when he became head of the department (till 2016). Since 2017 he is the head of the new Department of Orthopaedics and Trauma at the Medical University of Graz. From 2018 to 2024 he additionally served as Vice Rector for Clinical Affairs at the Medical University of Graz.

He is author / co-author of >450 PubMed listed publications, >1500 oral / poster presentations, has a total impact factor of >1600 and an h-index of 45. Prof. Leithner has acted as a reviewer for 14 funding organizations and 68 international journals.
